Basic Information:
Clinton Road is a ten mile-long stretch of curves winding through thick woodland, seemingly in the middle of nowhere. Well, at least it seems that way, because as you drive down the spooky roadway you feel as if you are a million miles away from any civilization. There are many stories about Clinton Road, which is the truth (if any) is up for you to figure out.
The Legend:
This particular road has many different legends that go along with it.
Legend 1: The most known is the the ghostly story of the bridge at the dead man's curve in the road. Local legend says that years ago, a little boy was playing on the bridge and tragically fell to his death on the jagged rocks below. They claim his ghost haunts the lonely spot where he died, and if you throw a quarter over the edge of the bridge down into the water below, moments later it will be tossed back at you.
Legend 2: Their are also accounts of people saying that they've seen a grayish white wolf with red and yellowish eyes that will sit in the bushes along side of the road and chase after cars.
Legend 3: Another well known legend is that the KKK and satanic worshipers gather in the woods right off of Clinton Road in the woods. Fires with people dancing around them have been said to be seen. They have also been said to chase after cars.

My View:
Clinton Road is one of the scariest places I have been too. So even though it is in New Jersey, I had to put it on here. Me and a bunch of friends took 2 cars there to test out some of these legends we had heard. We threw quarters off the bridge but none came back. However, you could get that distinct feeling that something was watching us. While riding the rest of the way, me and my friend realized there was fires in the distance up on a hill. There were also things running around it. Just as we looked from where that was, a man ran from the woods at are car. We all screamed and sped away as fast as we could. We thought it might have been someone playing a prank on people, but when we returned, he was gone. And I dont know why someone would be sitting in the woods in the pitch dark. Since then, I havnt gone back. Just thinking about that night gives me chills. So yes, I think that there is definatly going on at Clinton Road. Either supernatural or a cult, Im not sure. But that road is definatly not safe. Be careful if you wish to investigate it.

Call me skeptical but the reason why you got that distinct feeling that someone was watching you was probably because you knew that the place is "haunted" so you were pre-conditioned. I wouldn't be particularly surprised if KKK or a satanic cult meetings were actually held there. I'll be sure to take a ride on Clinton Rd. the next time I'm in West Milford.
i was actually there a couple nights ago, and let me tell you, the coin toss is real. at first it was fake, that i give. around 9pmish i threw a dime and it didnt return. so me and my friends went back on route 23 and returned a few hours later a little before midnight. we marked a quarter and tossed it. nothin returned. so we drove off into the woods. we read on wikipedia (even though creditentials can be questioned, jus for a rough generality) that a white or red pickup truck apears, well we ran into a white pickup truck that tailed us at first. i pulled over by the reservoir and let it passed but i couldnt keep up even though i was driving a sports car. i did notice wild wolves and foxes but nothin with red demonic eye. and yes i also noticed fire in the hills but nothing jumped at us. now on the way back we stopped at the bridge to throw another quarter- guess what was waiting for us, the same quarter we marked and tossed. now i have no explaination for that. we jumped into the car and within 10 seconds we were back on route 23. while we were there a deep fog and mist descended so that plays a deep shady part
On our way back from Mountain Creek me and my friends decided to take Clinton Road. First thing we see is a car stop & make a you turn, but when he was turning he blocked us. So we sat in the dark for like five minutes listening to cinematic music which is great for adventures. Then a douchebag in a truck almost rams our stopped car. He then tailgates us like an asshole for 10 minutes and we look back and he is gone, it was some scary shit. Scared & high we continued on our adventure. The feeling of isolation you get form that road is the most haunting part. You are surrounded by dark walls on both sides vulnerable to attack. If someone wanted to they can do terrible things on clinton road and i am sure that has happened. If i were a satanic cult or the KKK clinton road would be a great spot.
Warnig: do not go to clinton road with a bunch of pussies, they will nag at you to turn around
i went there once. 5 friends and i were driving down the road because another friend of mine told us about a phantom truck that tris to run you over. so, like, at 12:40 in the morning, we drove around, and about 5 minutes after we started driving, there were 2 big lights following behind us and thee was a loud truck horn. we drove, like, 115 mpf! when we reached the bridge, it just dissapeared until we crossed it. we thought we were safe, but then a few inutes later it was back. we were all screaing and stuff until we finally reached the end of the road. then it dissapeared again... so we stopped, got out of the car, and we walked over to the very end of the road. nohing was there. i was like, "that was some scary shit, guys." and then we heard a truck horn off in the distance. we ran back to the car screaming and then we drove like our lives dependedd on it! it was fun though lol
My theory is the local cult members don't want people snooping around. So they are just following people around with trucks, BUT USING NIGHT VISION GOOGLES OR THEY KNOW THE TERRAIN VERY WELL, to navigate in the middle of the night without lights on ( so they can sneak up on people and ambush them). The "ghost truck" could be just some type of cult lookout guard to scare people away. Also there were some reports of a "red" or "black" truck, which probably means people were just switching out their cars for patrol, also "earthbound spirits" typically do not possess such capabilities as manifesting into cars of different colors (their abilities tend to be much more limited), and following people for miles on end.
